Back in 1910 Elphinstone Dayrell researched and put together the “Folk Stories from Southern Nigeria, West Africa”.
The myth that explains why Hippopotamuses live in the water and not on land, is being retold here. The story will remind some of the European fairy tale of “Rumpelstiltskin” showing the interconnectedness between cultures.
